Frequently Asked Questions

What do you offer that other home care agencies don't?

As an affiliate of Vi, Senior Healthcare Services (SHS) is bound by the same performance standards. Each member of our care team is:

  • Background checked
  • Individually credentialed
  • Supervised by an in-house registered nurse
  • Expected to meet specific performance standards

In addition, we conduct periodic clinical reviews, during which a licensed nurse reevaluates your current needs and updates your plan of service if necessary.

Why wouldn't I just hire my own nurse or aides through a registry?

A nurse registry provides you with a list of workers who you may employ directly. There are drawbacks to this approach. Supervision and ongoing training are not required, so there may be minimal-if any-standards for quality of service and care.

At SHS, each of our caregivers is screened for the position and hired by us as a direct employee. We pay payroll taxes and maintain workers' compensation insurance. Each employee is supervised by the SHS case manager/home health coordinator at your community and is held to SHS's standards.

Are there minimum or maximum time limitations?

SHS offers services based on your individual needs, for a minimum of one hour per day. Our registered nurse will customize a plan for you. Be sure to check with your community about specific community policies related to home health care services.

Does insurance cover the cost of home care?

Certain SHS home care services may be covered by Medicare if ordered by your physician. Long-term care insurance generally includes home care benefits, but the type and amount may vary by policy. Be sure to consult your insurance adviser and check your policy to see what is covered and for how much.

We will file claims for SHS services with Medicare and help you understand Medicare coverage and payment.
